THE ART OF
Coagulatio

MATTER—MATER—MOTHER
Adapted from
Guide to Lost Wonder No.9

Cor Verum Terra

The Latin motto accompanying this engraving, Cor Verum Terra, is translated literally as “the Earth is the true heart.” The philosophical earth is our true mother—she nurses and supports our hungry spirits.

This picture was originally printed in Michael Maier’s 1618 work Atalanta Fugiens.
